Genome-wide studies have highlighted the observation that most proteins act as part of a functional complex, rather than working independently. The composition of these complexes (sometimes called molecular machines) is often time-dependent and regulated, and it is becoming clear that an understanding of biological function of any protein depends on a clear understanding of the protein complexes involved.
The purpose of this meeting is to present, discuss and compare the experimental approaches to studying the composition and structure of protein complexes, primarily so that researchers can identify the most useful tools for their own problem.
