Dear collegues and friends of the EPS,
After the 34th European Peptide Symposium in Leipzig, my term as Secretary of EPS came to an end. Although the official start of my duties was in September 2012, when Professor Alex Eberle resigned as EPS Secretary, I was very pleased to be invited to participate in the activities of the Executive Committee one year before. This allowed me to learn the job from my predecessor, but also to take part from the beginning in the important re-structuration that EPS underwent in that period. As was indicated in the message of the past EPS President, Professor Ferenc Hudecz, new Statutes and Bylaws needed to be established, as required for the official registration of EPS as non profit organisation. In addition, the contracts with Wiley on the publication of the Journal of Peptide Science, on the EPS Newsletter and on the website were re-negotiated, which resulted in substantially better financial conditions for EPS. The royalties of the Journal now constitute a major income for EPS, which allows the Executive Committee to give substantial support to young scientists to participate in the European Peptide Symposia, and to support local meetings. This should be a major motivation for EPS members to support their Journal by submitting excellent work.
During this term I was very pleased to get to know better many collegues representing the member countries in the General Assembly. It was a pleasure to collaborate in the Executive Committee with my collegues under the very carefull leadership of the President, Professor Ferenc Hudecz. I thank all of them. Several new team members have now taken responsibilities in the EC. I wish them success and much satisfaction for their work. I am convinced that the Society, with already a long tradition, will have a bright future.
Professor Dirk Tourwé
Past Secretary of EPS
