The Paris-Lodron-University of Salzburg invites applications for a full professorship in Organic Chemistry for Protein Research at the Department of Biosciences.

The successful candidate shall establish an internationally competitive research program, covering attractive areas in the chemistry and biology of biomedically relevant peptides. S/he will employ screening technologies, complemented with machine learning-enabled and structure-based design to design and develop peptides, peptide mimetics and peptide conjugates for biomedical applications. Of further interests are methods in chemoselective ligation and bioorthogonal labelling. The successful candidate is expected to use the available infrastructure in modern bioanalytics, including NMR, CD, MALDI-TOF.

Salzburg offers manifold cooperation possibilities in the areas of diagnostics, imaging and drug discovery.  The department of biosciences (https://plus.ac.at/bio) and the priority program Allergy, Cancer BioNano (http://acbn.sbg.ac.at) have particular interests in antimicrobial compounds and/or drug delivery techniques as well as in the broad topic of immune modulation with diverse applications such as allergy and cancer. Additionally, cooperations with other research groups at the faculty for natural sciences (https://www.plus.ac.at/fakultaetsbuero-naturwissenschaftliche-fakultaet) and the medical university (https://www.pmu.ac.at) are highly welcome.

The successful candidate is expected to actively engage in biological and chemical study programs (Molecular and Medical Biology; Chemistry for high school teachers), the latter with a focus on organic chemistry. The studies are offered on the bachelor, master, and PhD level and include mentoring of the corresponding theses.

Finally, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to administrative duties at the department.

General employment requirements are:

• A completed domestic or equivalent foreign university education (doctorate) appropriate to the position.
• A teaching license (venia docendi, venia legendi) obtained at an Austrian university or an equivalent foreign teaching license or a qualification that is considered to be of equal value
• Relevant, internationally visible research at the highest level in the fields of basic and/or applied biomedical research, preferably with a focus on the areas of organic chemistry/peptide chemistry
• International networking and relevant international experience
• Experience in recruiting and managing externally funded projects and collaborative projects with international partners and companies
• Pedagogical and university didactic experience and qualification
• Administrative and social competence
• Willingness to participate in university committees
• Good command of English and German

The position is for a permanent full-time employment according to § 98 UG 2002 and the Salaried Employees Act as well as the Collective Agreement for University Employees / Application Group A1. Overpayment of the collective agreement minimum salary of € 5,245.60 gross (14 monthly salaries) is provided.
